Know what the name means
Wade vs. Slick Fork Saddle
Every Wade is a slick fork, but not every slick-fork saddle is a Wade. Slick fork describes the shape; Wade traditionally describes a more specific combination of shape and construction.
What slick fork means
A slick fork is widest at the bottom and narrows toward the top, unlike a swell fork that widens through the middle. That open shape can leave more room in front of the rider and space for packed gear.
What makes it a Wade
A traditional Wade uses a wood post horn built into a substantial slick fork. The wood post does not require the same mounting hardware as a metal horn, so the gullet can be thinner and the horn can sit lower.
What the fork does not decide
Fork style does not determine the horse fit or the rider's ground seat. Ask about the bars, rigging, seat, horn material, and stock thickness instead of relying on a model name alone.
